Cubs Football Ends Regular Season Undefeated

The Alcester-Hudson Cubs football team ended their 2023 regular season undefeated after a 52-0 win over the Irene-Wakonda Eagles on Friday, October 13th.

The Cubs scored 44 points in the opening quarter on their way to the win.  Jose Topete-Lopez had three rushing touchdowns in the quarter on carries of 52 yards, 41 yards, and 53 yards.  Mateo Kleinhans had a 43-yard touchdown run in the quarter.  William Hallaway added a 26-yard touchdown run, and Aidan Cole had a three-yard touchdown run.  The Cubs converted four two-point conversions for the 44-0 lead.  The final score came in the second quarter on a 44-yard run by Jackson Meyer.

Alcester-Hudson had 11 first downs compared to just three for the Eagles.  The Cubs had 341 yards of total offense, 309 rushing yards and 32 passing yards.  Irene-Wakonda had 51 yards of total offense, 46 rushing yards and five passing yards.

Topete-Lopez had four carries for 151 yards and three touchdowns.  Kleinhans had two carries for 43 yards and a touchdown.  Meyer had two carries for 42 yards and a touchdown.  Hallaway had a carry of 26 yards and a touchdown, and Evan Brown had three rushes for 24 yards.  Kleinhans was 1-1 passing for 32 yards.  Cole had the lone catch.

Raider Wickre had 3.5 tackles.  Jensen Christensen and Cole both finished with three tackles each.  Christensen also had an interception.  Ethan Brown and Owen Serck each had 2.5 tackles.  Jacob Cole added two tackles.

The Cubs will be the #2 seed in the 9A playoffs.  They will host #15 Burke on Thursday, October 19th in the opening round.
