The Alcester-Hudson Cubs hosted the Castlewood Warriors in the opening round of the 9A playoffs on Thursday, October 24th. The Warriors scored a touchdown in the fourth quarter to get a 22-18 win.
The Cubs took the lead in the opening quarter on a 52-yard touchdown run by Evan Brown. The conversion attempt was no good. This was the only score of the first quarter as Alcester-Hudson led 6-0 at the break. They extended the lead in the second quarter to 12-0 on a 30-yard touchdown pass from Tommy Walth to Ethan Bovill. The Warriors got on the board later in the second quarter on a 12-yard touchdown pass and made two-point conversion. The first half ended with the Cubs leading 12-8.
Castlewood took the lead in the third quarter on a 14-yard touchdown run. They added another two-point conversion for a 16-12 advantage. The third quarter ended with Castlewood leading 16-12. The Cubs regained the lead in the fourth quarter on an 18-yard touchdown pass from Walth to Jacob Cole. That score put Alcester-Hudson ahead 18-16. The Warriors got the game-winning score later in the fourth on a three-yard run.
Alcester-Hudson finished with 246 yards of total offense, 114 rushing yards and 132 passing yards. Castlewood finished with 305 yards of total offense, 219 rushing yards and 86 passing yards. Brown had six carries for 79 yards and a touchdown. Walth had 12 carries for 30 yards. Walth was 9-21 passing for 132 yards and two touchdowns. Bovill had six catches for 89 yards and a touchdown. Cole finished with two catches for 39 yards and a touchdown.
Brown led the team with 12 tackles. Walth had 6.5 tackles. Bovill ended with six tackles and an interception. Jackson Meyer had 5.5 tackles. Jose Topete-Lopez had 4.5 tackles, and Darin Dykstra had four tackles.
