Cubs Fall to Thunderhawks in Shootout

The Alcester-Hudson Cub football team traveled to Andes Central to play the Tripp-Delmont/Armour/Andes Central/Dakota Christian Thunderhawks (TDAACDC) to finish the regular season on Friday, October 18th.  The Cubs fell in a shootout by a score of 58-32.

The Thunderhawks scored the first two touchdowns in the opening quarter.  They scored on a six-yard run and a 70-yard pass.  Both two-point conversions were made for a 16-0 lead.  Evan Brown caught a three-yard touchdown pass from Tommy Walth later in the first quarter to cut the lead to 16-6.  The Thunderhawks got one more score before the end of the quarter.  This time the score was on a 42-yard run.  Another two-point conversion made the score 24-6 at the end of the first quarter.

TDAACDC extended their lead to 30-6 after a two-yard rushing touchdown in the second quarter.  Ethan Bovill caught a two-yard touchdown pass from Walth also in the second quarter.  The score remained 30-12 going into halftime.

Walth brought the Cubs within 12 points, 30-18, after a 17-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.  The Thunderhawks extended the lead to 38-18 after a one-yard touchdown run and two-point conversion.  Walth and Bovill connected again in the third quarter on a six-yard touchdown pass and catch to make the score 38-24.  TDAACDC extended the lead again, 46-24, after a 55-yard touchdown run and two-point conversion.

Bovill caught his third touchdown pass from Walth in the fourth quarter from 24-yards away.  Walth scored the two point conversion, and the Cubs cut the score to 46-32.  The Thunderhawks would get two more scores before the end of the game.  The first score was on a five-yard run, and the second was a 44-yard run.

The Cubs finished with 250 yards of offense, 217 passing yards and 33 rushing yards.  The Thunderhawks had 529 yards of offense, 433 rushing yards and 96 passing yards.  Walth had 11 carries for 39 yards and a touchdown.  He was also 19-31 passing for 217 yards with four touchdowns.  Bovill had 10 catches for 114 yards and three touchdowns.  Darin Dykstra had four catches for 56 yards.  Brown also had a touchdown catch.  Bovill also had 7.5 tackles.  Brown finished with seven tackles, and Jackson Meyer added six tackles.

Alcester-Hudson finished the regular season with a 4-4 record.  They will host Castlewood in the first round of the playoffs on Thursday, October 24th.
