Alcester-Hudson Advances in 9A Playoffs

The Alcester-Hudson Cubs hosted the Burke Cougars in the opening round of the 9A playoffs on Thursday, October 19th.  The Cubs advanced to the quarterfinals after a 50-12 win.

Alcester-Hudson scored 36 unanswered points in the first half.  William Hallaway had an 81-yard kickoff return for a touchdown to start the game.  Hallaway then had a 58-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown.  The Cubs scored a two-point conversion after both of those touchdowns.  Mateo Kleinhans had a one-yard touchdown run later in the quarter, and Alcester-Hudson led 22-0 at the end of the first quarter.

Ethan Bovill caught a 30-yard touchdown pass from Kleinhans in the second quarter.  Hallaway scored his third touchdown on a 21-yard interception return pushing the lead to 36-0.  Burke got on the board with an 18-yard touchdown pass before halftime to cut the lead to 36-6.

The Cubs kept rolling in the third quarter.  Evan Brown had a nine-yard rushing touchdown, and Kleinhans had a one-yard rushing touchdown to push the lead to 50-6.  The Cougars scored one more touchdown in the fourth quarter on a two-yard touchdown.

Alcester-Hudson had 263 yards of offense, 162 rushing yards and 101 passing yards.  Burke had 233 yards of offense, 145 rushing yards and 68 passing yards.

Kleinhans had eight carries for 62 yards and two touchdowns.  Brown had three carries for nine yards and a touchdown.  Jose Topete-Lopez finished with four carries for 83 yards.  Kleinhans was 6-10 passing for 101 yards and a touchdown.  Bovill had four receptions for 74 yards and a touchdown.  Hallaway had 1.5 tackles and an interception.  Jansen Christensen had eight tackles.  Topete-Lopez had six tackles.  Jackson Meyer added five takcles, Evan Brown had 4.5 tackles, and Aidan Cole finished with four tackles.
