The Alcester-Hudson Cubs football team used four unanswered touchdowns in the second and third quarters to help them to a 48-26 win on Friday, September 29th. The Cubs hosted the Avon Pirates in their final regular season home game of the year.
Mateo Kleinhans had a 31-yard touchdown pass to Ethan Bovill to put the Cubs on the board first in the opening quarter. Evan Brown scored the two point conversion. Avon got a three-yard rushing touchdown in the quarter, and the Cubs led 8-6 after the first quarter.
The Pirates took the lead, 12-8, after a 68-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. Jose Topete-Lopez put the Cubs back in front with a 14-yard touchdown. Kleinhans added a 10-yard touchdown run for a 20-12 lead. William Hallaway scored on a 61-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown. Alcester-Hudson made the two-point conversion for a 28-12 halftime lead.
Kleinhans had a 20-yard rushing touchdown in the third quarter to extend the Cubs lead to 34-12. Avon broke the streak with a 38-yard touchdown run to make the score 34-18. Topete-Lopez had another rushing touchdown in the third quarter, this time from four yards away, extended the lead. Another made two-point conversion gave the Cubs a 42-18 lead going into the final quarter.
The Pirates added a 20-yard rushing touchdown and two-point conversion in the fourth quarter to cut the lead to 42-26, but Kleinhans ended the scoring with a 50-yard rushing touchdown.
The Cubs finished with 258 yards of offense, 217 rushing yards and 41 passing yards. Kleinhans had 16 carries for 123 yards and three touchdowns. Topete-Lopez had 10 carries for 24 yards and two touchdowns. Brown added three runs for 72 yards. Kleinhans was also 3-8 passing for 41 yards and a touchdown and interception. Bovill had all three catches for 41 yards and a touchdown.
Brown had 8.5 tackles in the game. Darin Dykstra finished with 6.5 tackles. Hallaway had six tackles and a fumble recovery for touchdown. Topete-Lopez added five tackles. Dominic VanEgdom finished with 4.5 tackles. Boville had 2.5 tackles and an interception.
