The Alcester-Hudson Cub football team remained perfect on the season with a 52-22 road win over the Gayville-Volin Raiders on Friday, September 22nd. Ethan Bovill and Mateo Kleinhans both accounted for three touchdowns each in the game.
Bovill started the game with a bang returning the opening kickoff 61 yards for a touchdown for an early 6-0 lead. Bovill struck again later in the quarter. He had a 40-yard forced fumble and recovery return for a touchdown with 9:55 left in the quarter. The Raiders cut the lead to 12-8 with a four-yard touchdown run and two-point conversion with 4:45 to go in the first. Kleinhans had his first touchdown on a five-yard run with 1:02 left in the quarter. He also scored the two-point conversion to make the score 20-8.
Kleinhans added a 39-yard touchdown run with 6:02 to play in the second quarter to extend the lead to 26-8. With 2:43 left in the half, Bovill scored on again on a 65-yard interception return for a touchdown. Evan Brown scored the two-point conversion to put the Cubs ahead 34-8. Kleinhans added a touchdown pass with less than a minute in the half. He connected with William Hallaway on a 29-yard pass. The Cubs led 40-8 at halftime.
Gayville-Volin scored the first touchdown in the second half on a 38-yard run with 4:07 to go in third quarter. Alcester-Hudson responded when Brown scored on a 53-yard touchdown run with 2:49 left in the quarter. The Cubs led 46-14 going into the fourth quarter. The Raiders got their final score on a 13-yard run with 3:22 left in the game. Jackson Meyer had a 59-yard touchdown run with 1:30 remaining in the game for the Cubs.
