Parker Takes Five-Set Match over Alcester-Hudson

The Alcester-Hudson Cubs volleyball team traveled to Parker on Thursday, September 14th.  The two teams battled through five sets with the Pheasants taking the win.  Parker won by scores of 16-25, 25-14, 12-25, 26-24, and 15-11.

The first set started back and forth to a 6-6 tie.  The Cubs went on a 5-1 run to take an 11-7 lead.  Alcester-Hudson then continued with a 9-2 run for a 20-9 lead.  The Pheasants tried to rally, but the Cubs won the first set 25-16.  Parker grabbed the momentum in the second set.  They took an early 6-3 lead and then went on a 7-1 run for a 13-4 lead.  The Pheasants went ahead 20-11 before winning the second set 25-14.

The momentum shifted back to the Cubs in the third set.  They got out to a 7-2 lead and slowly extended that lead throughout the rest of the set.  Alcester-Hudson led 14-6 and then 19-7 before winning 25-12.  Parker started on a 6-1 run in the fourth set.  The Cubs cut the lead to 12-9 only to see Parker go on a 6-0 run for an 18-12 advantage.  Alcester-Hudson eventually tied the score 20-20.  The score was tied again 24-24, and then Parker scored the final two points for a 26-24 win to force a fifth set.

Parker used that excitement to get an early 5-2 lead in the fifth set.  The Cubs got within two points, 7-5, but that was as close as they would get.  The Pheasants went on a 4-1 run for an 11-6 lead.  Parker kept the lead the rest of the set and won 15-11.

Three players had over 20 digs in the match.  Hannah Ahart had 29 digs.  Jenna Manning finished with 28 digs, and Alexis Gray had 24 digs.  Ahart also finished with 34 set assists, three kills, and two ace serves.  Gray had a team-high 10 kills.  Elly Doering finished with nine kills and five blocks.  Emma Moller had eight kills and 10 digs.
