Cubs Football Team Looking to Make Deeper Playoff Run

The Alcester-Hudson Cubs football team finished the regular season with a 7-1 record, but had their season come to an end in the opening round of the playoffs in 2022.  The Cubs return a lot of experience from last year’s team to make a deeper playoff run this season.

The team returns 14 letters winners as well as seven starters on offense and six starters on defense.  The Cubs will need to fill three starters lost to graduation last year.  Returning senior starters Mateo Kleinhans, Dominic Van Egdom, Aidan Cole, William Hallaway, Gavin Kroll, and Aden Moller will lead this years team.  Juniors Evan Brown andJose Topete-Lopez return to the starting line up as well.  Head coach Brian Haak also anticipates Jensen Christensen (senior), Jayce Jund (senior), Darnell Vermeersch (senior), Mike Kast (senior), Ethan Bovill (junior), Tommy Walth (sophomore), and Darin Dykstra (sophomore) to see significant action.

“We need to stay healthy at our offensive and defensive line spots, stop the run more consistently, and our passing game needs to improve for us to beat quality teams.  We return a great group of senior players with a ton of experience and playmaking ability.  They are a great group of young men who are looking to improve on last year’s early playoff exit.  We need to be mentally tougher this season.  Consistent play and focus will help us win the games against tougher teams,” said Haak.

The Cubs start the 2023 season in Centerville on Friday, August 18th.
