Alcester-Hudson Boys Have Season End in Region 4B

The Alcester-Hudson Cubs (6-15) season came to an end in the opening round of the Region 4B tournament on Tuesday, February 28th.  The Cubs fell to the Irene-Wakonda Eagles 62-49.

The Cubs led 11-9 at about the midway point of the first quarter, but the Eagles finished the quarter on an 11-3 run for a 20-14 advantage going into the second quarter.  Alcester-Hudson cut the lead down to a point, 23-22, early in the second, but the Eagles again went on a run.  Irene-Wakonda led 36-26 at halftime.  The Cubs tried to make a comeback in the second half and were within eight points, 40-32, with 5:30 left in the third quarter, but the Eagles held off any comeback.  Irene-Wakonda pushed the lead back to double digits, 53-40, going into the fourth quarter and continued to lead by double digits during the entire final quarter.

Alcester-Hudson shot 43% (21-49) from the field overall, 17% (2-12) from three-point area, and 5-9 from the free-throw line.  Irene-Wakonda shot 48% (24-50) from the field, 42% (8-19) on three-point attempts, and 33% (6-18) from the free-throw line.

Three players finished in double figures.  Dominic Van Egdom had 13 points, 12 rebounds, two assists, and two steals.  Ethan Bovill finished with 10 points, seven rebounds, and two assists.  Mateo Kleinhans also had 10 points with three rebounds and two assists.   Jose Topete-Lopez finished with seven points, seven rebounds, and three steals.
