Alcester-Hudson Boys Rally, but Lose in Final Seconds

The Alcester-Hudson Cubs trailed  by 11 points late in the fourth quarter, rallied to tie the game, but lost on a made free-throw by Scotland with :02 to play.  The Highlanders survived 47-46 on Tuesday,  January 24th.

The Highlanders led the entire game until the final :12 of the game.  The Cubs did not score their first point of the game until 2:00 left to go in the first quarter.  Scotland led 12-4 at the end of the first quarter.  The Highlanders got the lead to double digits and led 23-13 at halftime.  Both teams would score 15 points in the third quarter, and Scotland continued to lead 38-28 heading into the fourth quarter.

Alcester-Hudson was able to cut the lead in half, 38-33, by starting the fourth quarter on a 5-0 run.  Scotland responded with a 7-1 run to push the lead to 45-34 with 2:40 to go.  The Cubs got on a roll, and Mateo Kleinhans tied the game from the free-throw line, 46-46, with just :12 to go.  A foul, however, was called with just :02 to go, and Scotland was able to make one of two free-throws.  A half-court shot at the buzzer was shot, and the Highlanders hung on for the win.

Ethan Bovill finished with 13 points, three rebounds, and three steals.  Jose Topete-Lopez added eight points and two rebounds.  Kleinhans also had eight points.  Dominic Van Egdom had seven points and 11 rebounds.  Owen Bovill finished with six points.
