Cubs Hold on Against Westerners

The Alcester-Hudson Cubs built a 13-point lead by halftime and held on against the Akron-Westfield Westerners in a 44-40 victory on Thursday, January 13th.  The win snapped a five-game losing streak for the Cubs.

Alcester-Hudson led by just a point, 4-3, in a low-scoring first quarter.  The offense got going in the second quarter for the Cubs as they scored 19 points in the quarter.  The Cubs led 23-10 at halftime.  The Westerners made a run in the second half.  Akron-Westfield cut the lead to 33-27 by the end of the third quarter.  They also outscored the Cubs 13-11 in the fourth quarter, but ran out of time in their comeback bid.

The Cubs shot 26% (11-43) overall in the game, 23% (3-13) from three-point area, and 70% (19-27) from the free-throw line.

Elly Doering had a big game with 21 points and 12 rebounds.  Jenna Manning had seven points.  Kayleigh Thompson ended with five points, four rebounds, and three steals.  Alexis Gray added four points and five rebounds.  Emily Winquist had three points, and Ella Serck had two points and six rebounds.
