Cub Boys Break Snap Losing Streak

Playing in their sixth straight road game of the season, the Alcester-Hudson Cubs ended a five-game losing streak with a 49-45 win at the Avon Pirates on Saturday, January 7th.

The first half was a close, back-and-forth battle.  The Cubs led by one point at the end of the first quarter, 12-11, and they maintained that one-point lead at halftime, 23-22.  The third quarter was what lifted Alcester-Hudson to victory.  The Cubs outscored Avon 18-9 to push their lead to 41-31 heading into the fourth quarter.  Avon made a comeback in the fourth quarter.  Trailing 47-44 with seconds left, a foul was called on a long two-point shot.  The first free-throw was made making the score 47-45.  The Pirates tried to purposely miss the second free-throw and get the rebound for a game-tying shot, but a lane violation was called.  Evan Brown made two free-throws to seal the victory at 49-45.

Jose Topete-Lopez had 11 points and five rebounds.  Dominic Van Egdom added 10 points and six rebounds.  Ethan Bovill and Mateo Kleinhans both finished with eight points each.  Brown had six points, and Owen Bovill had five points, three rebounds, and two steals.
