Cubs Volleyball Season Ends in Five-Set Match Against Scotland

The 2022 volleyball season came to an end for the Alcester-Hudson Cubs in the Region 4B tournament on Tuesday, November 1st.  The Cubs lost a five-set match to the Scotland Highlanders in Scotland.

Scotland took the first advantage in the opening set.  The Highlanders turned a one-point lead, 12-11, into a five-point lead at 17-12.  The Cubs cut the lead to one point, 20-19, but Scotland maintained the lead and won the opening set 25-22.  Alcester-Hudson grabbed a four point lead, 11-7, after a 7-7 tie in the second set.  They extended the lead to 19-8.  Scotland pulled within two points, 24-22, but the Cubs won the next point for a 25-22 victory.

The third set started much like the first two as Scotland held a slim 8-7 lead early.  The Highlights scored the next four in a row for 12-7 lead.  The Cubs rallied to tie the score 12-12 and the two teams went back and forth as the score remained tied 18-18.  Alcester-Hudson then rallied for the next four points and a 22-18 lead.  The Cubs won the third set 25-20.  The two teams battled close through the first half of the fourth set.  The score was tied again 16-16.  Scotland scored the next three points, and that was enough of a lead.  The Highlanders remained in front the rest of the set and won 25-21 to force a fifth and final set.

Scotland got some separation midway through the fifth set and took a 9-5 lead.  The Cubs battled back to within a point, 10-9, but Scotland outscored Alcester-Hudson 5-2 the rest of the set for the 15-11 victory to win the match.

Ella Serck finished with 45 set assists, 24 digs, and three kills.  Elly Doering had 18 kills, nine digs, and two blocks.  Alexis Gray added 12 kills and 15 digs.  Emma Moller finished with 10 kills, 13 digs, and two ace serves.  Hannah Ahart had 21 digs, four ace serves, and three set assists.  Carly Patrick added nine digs, eight kills, and two ace serves.  Jenna Manning had 13 digs, and Devin Honglso finished with seven kills and four digs.
