Alcester-Hudson Wins Fourth Straight

The Alcester-Hudson Cub football team won their fourth straight game with a 32-17 win over the Garretson Blue Dragons at home on Friday, September 9th.

Fireworks started early for the Cubs.  William Hallaway had an 85-yard kickoff return for a touchdown to start the game.  Mateo Kleinhans completed a pass to Dominic Egdom for the two-point conversion for an early 8-0 lead.  The score remained 8-0 through the remainder of the first quarter.

Garretson got a 25-yard field goal by Jenna Van Holland with 8:42 in the second quarter.  The Cubs responded quickly.  Kleinhans had a 93-yard touchdown run and then scored the two-point conversion with 7:27 to go in the half for a 16-3 lead.  That’s where the score remained at halftime.

Alcester-Hudson scored early in the third quarter as well.  Jose Lopez had a 10-yard touchdown run with 10:10 to play in the quarter.  Kleinhans had a pass to Owen Bovill for the two-point conversion for a 24-3 lead.  Garretson cut into the lead, 24-10, with 9:28 to play in the game on a four-yard touchdown run.  The Cubs’ last score came with 3:47 left in the game.  Lopez had a two-yard touchdown run with the two-point conversion run by Kleinhans.  The Blue Dragons added one more score with :28 left in the game on a 20-yard run.

The Cubs finished with 271 yards of total offense, all of them rushing yards.  Garretson finished with 258 yards of offense, 226 rushing yards and 32 passing yards.

Kleinhans was 0-3 passing, but had nine carries for 123 yards and a touchdown.  Lopez had 16 carries for 104 yards and two touchdowns.  Evan Brown finished with 10 carries for 41 yards.  William Hallaway finished with 5.5 tackles and an interception.  Egdom also had 5.5 tackles and a sack.  Jensen Christensen had five tackles, and Brown had 4.5 tackles.
