Cubs Football Continues to Roll

The Alcester-Hudson Cub football team remained undefeated after a 38-27 road win at the Chester Flyers on Friday, September 16th.

The Cubs never trailed in the game after scoring late in the first quarter.  Evan Brown had a 10-yard touchdown run with 2:28 in the first quarter, and the two-point conversion was made to give the Cubs an 8-0 lead.  Chester scored themselves less than a minute later.  With 1:33 left in the quarter, Jovi Wolf completed a 32-yard touchdown pass to Zach Moyer.  Their two-point conversion was stopped, and the Cubs led 8-6 after the first quarter of play.

Alcester-Hudson didn’t waste time in scoring their next touchdown.  Jose Lopez had an eight-yard touchdown run with 11:24 in the first half.  The two-point conversion was good again, and the Cubs lead grew to 16-6.  The Flyers pulled within three with a one-yard touchdown run and extra point with 8:16 on the clock.  The last three minutes of the first half was filled with more excitement.  Brown scored for the second time with 2:08 to play, and Cubs converted another two-point try for a 24-13 lead.  Chester, however, scored again about a minute later on a 13-yard touchdown pass.  The two-point conversion was no good, and the Cubs led 24-19 at halftime.

The Cubs were able to pull away in the second half with a touchdown in the third and fourth quarters.  Mateo Kleinhans had a 15-yard touchdown pass to Ethan Bovill with 2:34 left in the third quarter to extend the lead to 30-19.  Kleeinhans added a five-yard touchdown pass with 5:28 to go in the fourth quarter to Dominic Egdom.  The two-point conversion was good, and the Cubs led 38-19.  Chester got one more touchdown with :45 left in the game.

The Cubs finished with 436 yards of total offense, 321 rushing yards and 115 passing yards.  The Flyers finished with 304 yards of offense, 77 rushing yards and 227 passing yards.  The two teams combined for a total of 43 first downs, 27 for Alcester-Hudson and 16 for Chester.

Kleinhans finished 6-12 passing for 115 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception.  Owen Bovill had one catch for 56 yards.  Lopez had a catch for 17 yards.  E. Bovill finished with a catch for 15 yards and a touchdown.  Egdom had a catch for five yards and a touchdown.

Brown led the ground attack with 22 carries for 146 yards and two touchdowns.  Lopez finished with 15 carries for 79 yards and a touchdown.  O. Bovill had four carries for 38 yards, and Kleinhans had 10 carries for 27 yards.

Kleinhans also had 4.5 tackles on defense.  Lopez added four tackles and a sack.  William Hallaway also had four tackles.  Brown and Gavin Kroll both had three tackles each.  E. Bovill, Aden Moller, and Jensen Christensen all had two tackles each.
