The Dell Rapids Quarrier wrestling team qualified for the South Dakota State A Dual Team tournament with a 14-6 season last year, and also had six individual state qualifiers.
The Quarrier wrestling team returned 14 members from last year’s squad and began their 2020-2021 season on Saturday, December 5th at the Dell Rapids “Top of the Rock” tournament.
Head coach Craig Jorgensen said, “We have many returning varsity wrestlers that are excited about the season. Our expectations are to stay healthy, improve throughout the season, and hit our peak in the post season.”
In the first action of the year, the Quarriers finished fourth as a tema with a total of 97.0 points. Canton won the team title with 255.0 points. McCook Central/Montrose was second with 126.0 points, and Parker placed third with 103.0 points.
The Quarriers had eight wrestlers place in the tournament. Brayden Gee won the 170-pound weight class. Canyon Lowman and Zach McKee both had second place finishes. Andrew Weiland, Mason Stubbe, Weston Mason, and Mitchell Klinkenborg all placed third in their respective weight classes. Sam Cavigielli had a fourth place finish.
Dell Rapids will travel to Tea for duals against Lennox and Tea Area on Tuesday, December 15th.
