The Humboldt/Hartford Wood Duck season came to an end at the District 4B tournament. The Wood Ducks lost both of their games in Dell Rapids.
Salem Cubs 4, Humboldt/Hartford Wood Ducks 3
The Salem Cubs broke a 3-3 tie with a run in the bottom of the eighth and held for an opening round win over the Wood Ducks on Friday, July 22nd.
Salem scored two runs for an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second. The Wood Ducks tied the game with two runs in the top of the fourth. Chase Vessells had a two-run double. Salem regained the lead with a run in the bottom of the seventh. The Wood Ducks once again tied the game with a run in the top of the eighth. Jacob Ellens had an RBI single to make the score 3-3. The Cubs took the lead for good with two outs in the eighth.
Vessells had two hits, one a double, and two RBIs. Ellens had two singles and an RBI. Nathan Adrian and JJ Jesson both had two hits each. Austin Smith and Ryan Healy both added a single. Smith pitched eight innings and allowed four runs, three earned, on nine hits and five walks with five strikeouts.
Dell Rapids Mudcats 11, Humboldt/Hartford Wood Ducks 1
The Wood Duck season came to an end with an 11-1 loss to the Dell Rapids Mudcats on Sunday, July 24th. No stats were reported at the time of print.
