The West Central Trojan volleyball team extended their winning streak to seven matches after a road win against the McCook Central/Montrose Cougars on Thursday, October 8th. The Trojans won by set scores of 25-17, 21-25, 26-24, and 25-19.
The opening set began with a 3-3 tie. The Cougars would go on a 5-3 run to take an 8-6. The Trojans responded with a 5- 1 run to go in front 11-9. The Cougars tied the score 12-12, but West Central went on another run, this time 5-2, to regain the lead 17-14. The Trojans stayed in front 21-16 and then finished the set with a 25-17 win.
West Central took an early 3-2 lead to start the second set. McCook Central/Montrose would go on a 6-2 run to take the lead 8-5. The Cougars were able to extend their lead to 11-6 and then to 16-10. The Trojans fought back to 19-17 and then to within a point, 20-19. The Cougars, however, would end the set on a 5-2 spurt to win 25-21.
The Trojans would take a 3-1 run early in the third set. They continued to lead 8-6. McCook Central/Montrose then went on a 4-1 run to go in front 10-9. The Cougars would push that lead to 14-10. They would lead 18-15, and that’s when the Trojans would pick up some momentum. West Central pulled within a point 20-19 and then tied the score 21-21. The Trojans continued their run to go in front 24-22. The Cougars were able to rally to tie the score 24-24, but the Trojans got the final two points to win 26-24.
The start of the fourth set was close between the two teams. West Central held a slim 4-3 lead, but the set was then tied at 6-6. From there the Trojans would go back in front 9-7 and then extend that lead to 13-8. West Central was able to keep a four-point lead at 16-12 and 21-17. They then went on a 3-0 run for a 24-17 lead before ending the match at 25-19.
