The West Central Trojans hosted Dak-12 and Region 3A foe, the Dell Rapids Quarriers, on Thursday, August 27th. The Quarriers took the match in straight sets by scores of 25-14, 25-12, and 25-15.
The opening of the match went back and forth. After a 2-2 tie, Dell Rapids went ahead 4-2. The Trojans scored the next three points to take a 5-4 lead. They would extend that lead to 9-6, but Dell Rapids rallied to tie the score 10-10. The Quarriers took the lead back at 13-10 and also led 15-13. From there they finished the opening set on a 10-1 run for a 25-14 win.
Dell Rapids kept that momentum going to start the second set. They started with a 7-1 run. The Trojans pulled within four points, 10-6, but the Quarriers countered with a 10-3 run to extend their lead to 20-9. Dell Rapids finished the second set with a 25-12 win.
The Trojans opened the third set with a 3-1 lead. They continued to lead at 7-4, but Dell Rapids once again put together a rally. The Quarriers tied the set 7-7. West Central responded with a 4-2 spurt to regain the lead 11-9. Dell Rapids would then score six in a row to go ahead 15-11. They pushed their lead to 23-15 before scoring the final two points of the match.
Maddy Ingalls finished with 15 kills and nine digs. Jordyn Phillips had seven kills. Ella Harden and Sophia Gross both had six kills each. Brylee Garry had 12 set assists and four digs. Hadley Borgen also had 12 set assists. Brynlee Ideker added 11 set assists. Ellie Knight had a team-high 14 digs. Ashtyn Nilson ended with 11 digs.
