West Central Girls Pull Away from Huskies Late in the Game

The West Central Trojan girls turned a nine-point lead into a 26-point win over the Elk Point-Jefferson Huskies on Thursday, February 12th.  West Central scored 30 points in the final thirteen minutes of the game in the 55-29 victory.

Neither team scored in the first three minutes of the game.  The Trojan offense got going after that point and built a 14-6 lead by the end of the first quarter.  The two teams combined for just 14 total points in the second quarter, and West Central led 23-11 at halftime.

The Huskies started the third quarter on a 5-2 run to cut the lead to 25-16 with 5:00 to play in the third quarter.  The Trojans then found the right offensive gear the rest of the game.  They outscored Elk Point-Jefferson 15-2 the rest of the quarter to build a 40-18 advantage going into the final quarter.  The lead reached 33 points, 55-22, with 2:20 to play before the Huskies ended the game with seven straight points.

West Central shot 42% (22-52) from the field overall, 33% (7-21) on three-point attempts, and 4-9 from the free-throw line.  Elk Point-Jefferson was 33% (11-33) shooting overall, 36% (5-14) on three-point shots, and 2-6 from the free-throw line.

Kacey Jaton had 14 points, five rebounds, five steals, and three assists.  Ellie Knight finished with 13 points, six assists, five rebounds, and four steals.  Mackenzie Skonhovd added 10 points.  Abbi Thornton ended with nine points, and Kaylie Schultz had six points and three rebounds.
