West Central Girls Pull Away from Groton in Second Half

The West Central Trojan girls basketball team pulled away from the Groton Tigers at home on Friday, December 19th.  The turned a three-point halftime lead into a 49-28 victory.

Groton would end the first quarter with an 11-9 lead.  The Tigers scored eight of their 11 points from the free-throw line in the quarter.  The Trojans would outscore Groton 12-7 in the second quarter for a 21-18 lead at halftime.

The defense for the Trojans turned up the intensity in the second half.  They would hold Groton to just three points in the third quarter and just seven in the fourth quarter.  West Central scored 14 points in the third quarter for a 35-21 lead going into the fourth quarter.

The Trojans shot 41% (19-46) overall, 35% (6-17) from three-point area, and 38% (5-13) from the free-throw line.  Groton finished the game shooting 25% (8-32) overall, 27% (3-11) on three-point attempts, and 64% (9-14) from the free-throw line.

Ella Harden had 14 points in the game.  Ellie Knight had 11 points, four rebounds, four assists, and three steals.  Mackenzie Skonhovd also had 11 points with three assists and two steals.  Kacey Jaton ended with six points, six rebounds, and four steals.
