Quick Start Helps Trojan Boys to Win over Vermillion

The West Central Trojan boys basketball team started with a 7-0 run that kept them in front the entire game against the Vermillion Tanagers on Tuesday, December 16th.  The Trojans defeated the Tanagers 85-75 in front of their home crowd.

After the 7-0 start, West Central would finish the first quarter with a 24-11 lead.  Vermilion was able to cut into the lead in the second quarter, but only by three points.  The Trojans held a 46-36 lead at halftime.  The Tanagers again were able to cut into the lead in the third quarter.  Vermillion got the lead down to eight points, 65-57, going into the fourth quarter.  West Central was able to hold off any Tanager rally and outscored Vermillion 20-18 in the final quarter.

The Trojans shot 60% (33-55) from the field, 45% (10-22) on three-point shots, and 9-11 from the free-throw line.  Vermillion was 59% (26-44) overall from the field, 37% (7-19) on three-point attempts, and 76% (16-21) from the free-throw line.

Will Kuhl had 25 points and seven rebounds.  Connor Mebius had a double-double with 16 points, 12 assists, four rebounds, and three steals.  Hayden Heier tallied 14 points. Bubba Kono had 11 points.  Boche Knight added seven points, three assists, and three steals.  Kolte Garry also had seven points.
