The West Central Trojan volleyball team avenged an earlier season loss to the Lennox Orioles with a five-set thrilling win at home on Thursday, September 24th. They won by scores of 25-23, 20-25, 25-23, 24-26, and 15-9.
The Trojans opened the match with an early 5-3 lead. Lennox went on a 6-3 run to go in front 9-8. West Central responded with four in a row for a 12-9 advantage. They would grow that lead to 17-13. The Orioles rallied for an 8-1 run to make the score 21-18 in favor of Lennox. The Trojans tied the score at 22-22 and then finished the set on a 3-1 run for a 25-23 win.
West Central opened the second set with a 4-3 lead. They continued to lead by a score of 8-6. Lennox would go on a 7-4 run to take a 13-12 lead. The Orioles grew that lead to 19-13. West Central cut the lead to 21-17, but Lennox finished the set on a 4-3 advantage for the 25-20 win.
The third set started with a 4-4 tie. The Trojans took the first advantage at 7-6. They would push the score to 12-9 and continued to lead at 15-13. Lennox went on a 7-4 run to take a 20-19 lead late in the set. Once again West Central tied the score at 22-22 before finishing the set on a 3-1 run for another 25-23 victory.
The Trojans took an early 3-2 lead in the fourth set. The Orioles went on a 4-1 run to take a 6-4 lead. West Central went back in front 9-8, but then the set was tied at scores of 11-11 and 15-15. Lennox would take an 18-17 lead and continued to lead by one at 21-20. The Trojans went on a 4-0 run to go ahead 24-21. Momentum seemed to be on their side and things looked to be heading towards a 3-1 win for the Trojans. Lennox, however, rallied for six straight points to steal the fourth set win by a score of 26-24.
That late rally by the Orioles did not get the Trojans. West Central got out to a quick 4-2 lead in the fifth set. They slowly pushed that lead to 9-5. They continued to lead by four, 11-7, before finishing the match with a 4-2 run for the 15-9 win.
