The Rapid City Christian Comets held off the West Central Trojans 42-40 at the Roundball Classic at Sioux Valley High School on Saturday, January 31st.
West Central jumped out to a nine-point lead in the first quarter but ended the quarter leading 13-6. The Trojans were able to extend the lead to 24-16 by halftime. The Comets cut into the lead in the third quarter and trailed the Trojans 34-29 going into the fourth quarter. Rapid City Christian took the the lead in the fourth quarter and led by three points with 2:49 to go in the game before holding off the Trojans for the win.
West Central shot 30% (15-50) overall in the game, 18% (2-11) on three-point attempts, and 57% (8-14) from the free-throw line. Rapid City Christian finished the game shooting 31% (15-48) overall, 19% (4-21) on three-point shots, and 56% (8-13) from the free-throw line.
Abbi Thornton ended with 12 points and three steals. Kacey Jaton finished with 11 points, three rebounds, and three assists. Ellie Night had nine points and 12 rebounds. Kaylie Schultz added five points and six rebounds.
