West Central Advances in Region 3A Volleyball

The West Central Trojan volleyball team opened Region 3A play with a home win in the opening round on Tuesday, November 4th.  The Trojans hosted the Flandreau Fliers and took the match in straight sets by scores of 25-16, 25-15, and 25-23.

Flandreau took an early 4-2 lead to start the match.  West Central quickly responded with a 5-1 run to go in front 7-5.  They would slowly build on that lead throughout the set.  The Trojans led by scores of 13-9, 16-12, and 19-14.  They would finish the first set with a 6-2 run for the 25-16 win.

The Trojans kept the momentum going in the second set and took an early 4-1 lead.  They were able to extend that advantage to 7-2.  Flandreau was able to only cut the lead down by a point at 10-6.  From there West Central pushed the lead to 19-13 and then to 22-15 before finishing the set with three straight points.

The Fliers took an early 3-1 lead to start the third set and led for most of it.  After West Central tied the score at 5-5 and 7-7, Flandreau went ahead 11-9.  They were able to double the lead to four point at 15-11.  The Trojans battled back to within a point, 18-17, and then eventually tie the score 20-20.  The two teams were again tied at 22-22.  The Trojans were able to finish the set, and match, on a 3-1 run for a 25-22 win.

Ella Harden finished with 14 kills.  Sophia Gross, Maddy Ingalls, and Isabella McKinney all had six kills each.  Cambree Ideker had 32 set assists and four digs.  Ellie Knight added seven set assists, and Ingalls had four digs.

West Central will travel to Baltic to play the Bulldogs in a SoDak 16 qualifying match on Thursday, November 6th.  The match can be seen on Big Sioux Media.
