The West Central Trojans went on a run of 34 straight points to help them to a 41-19 win over the Canton C-Hawks on Friday, September 26th.
First Half
West Central opened the game with a bang. They forced a turnover on the opening kickoff, and on the very first play, Braylon Robbins scored on a seven-yard touchdown run. John Goehring made the extra point for an early 7-0 Trojan lead. Canton provided some fireworks of their own in the first quarter. On the next kickoff, the C-Hawks took it 90 yards for a touchdown. The extra point was good, and with 11:35 remaining in the opening quarter, the game was tied 7-7. The C-Hawks scored again later in the first quarter on an 86-yard touchdown pass. The extra point was blocked, but Canton led 13-7 after the opening quarter.
Robbins found the end zone again with 10:39 to go in the second quarter on a 13-yard run. Goehring added the extra point to put the Trojans ahead 14-13. Robbins added his third touchdown of the game on a one-yard run with 3:45 to go in the half. Another Goehring extra point made the score 21-13. The score stayed 21-13 at halftime.
Second Half
Boche Knight added to the run early in the third quarter. With 10:37 left in the third quarter, Knight scored on a nine-yard touchdown run. The made extra point extended the lead to 28-13. Carter Gross connected with Kolte Garry on an eight-yard touchdown pass later in the quarter. The extra point attempt was no good, but West Central pushed the lead to 34-13.
Gross would add a rushing touchdown with 10:39 to play in the game from 25 yards away. Goehring made the extra point to make the score 41-13. Canton finally got back in the end zone and ended the 34-point run with a six-yard touchdown run with 1:57 remaining in the game.
West Central will travel to Dell Rapids for their next game on Friday, October 3rd. Kickoff is at 7:00 p.m., and the game can be seen on Big Sioux Media Sports Network.
