The West Central Trojan volleyball team hosted the undefeated Dakota Valley Panthers on Tuesday, September 23rd. The Trojans took the first set, but Dakota Valley on the next three for a 3-1 match win.
West Central opened the match with a 2-0 lead and stayed in front the whole set. They turned a 6-4 lead into a 12-7 advantage. The Panthers got within three points, 13-10, but West Central went on an 8-3 run to extend the lead to 21-13. Dakota Valley rallied to within three points again, 23-20, but the Trojans took the win 25-21.
The Panthers started the second set with a 4-2 lead. They would go on a 9-2 run for a 13-4 lead. That run put them in the driver’s seat the rest of the set. Dakota Valley led 19-8 before winning 21-15. The third set started with a slim 3-2 lead for the Panthers. They extended the lead to 7-3. West Central went on a 7-3 run of their own to tie the score 10-10. Dakota Valley, however, went on an 8-2 run for an 18-12 lead before taking the third set 25-14.
West Central took an early 2-1 lead to start the fourth. They kept rolling to a 9-3 advantage. The Panthers, however, stopped the momentum and chipped away until they tied the score 12-12. The set was tied again 15-15. The Panthers then took an 18-16 lead and stayed in front the rest of the way. They would win the set 25-21 to win the match.
Ella Harden finished with 12 kills, three digs, and three ace serves. Madi Ingalls added nine kills, three digs, and two aces. Sophia Gross had six kills and four blocks. Cambree Ideker had 29 set assists, five digs, two kills, and a block. Ellie Knight finished with 12 digs. Jordyn Phillips had four kills and four ace serves.
