Wood Ducks Fall to Flandreau Cardinals in District 4B

The Humboldt/Hartford Wood Ducks suffered a loss to the Flandreau Cardinals, 17-2, at the District 4B Tournament in Madison on Thursday, July 31st.

The Wood Ducks took a 1-0 lead with a run in the top of the first inning, but the lead did not last long.  Flandreau scored five times in the bottom of the first to go in front 5-1.  They added three more in the bottom of the third to extend the lead to 8-1.  Each team scored a run in the fourth inning, but then the Cardinals plated seven more runs in the fifth for a 16-2 lead.  Flandreau ended the game on the 15-run rule in the bottom of the sixth with one more run.

Nathan Adrian had two hits for the Wood Ducks.  Hayden Whiting and Caden Alfson each had a single with an RBI.  Brayden Odegaard and Camden McDonald both finished with one hit each.

The Wood Ducks will have two more chances to win one game to qualify for the state tournament.  They will play Canova on Friday, August 1st at 6:00 p.m.  The winner will advance to the state tournament.  The loser of the game will play in the “Last Chance” game on Saturday, August 2nd at 3:00 p.m.
