Wood Ducks Currently 1-1 in District 4B Play

The Hartford/Humboldt Wood Ducks have won a game and lost a game in the District 4B Tournament being held in Madison.  They got a win over Salem in the opening round on Friday, July 25th but suffered a loss to Dell Rapids PBR on Saturday, July 26th.

Wood Ducks 7, Salem 4

Hartford/Humboldt pulled away in the middle innings in their tournament opener against Salem.  The Wood Ducks scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning for an early 2-0 lead.  Salem tied the game with two runs in the top of the second.  Hartford/Humboldt went back in front, 3-2, with a run in the bottom of the third.  Salem took the lead for the first time, 4-3, with two runs in the top of the fourth.  The lead was short lived as the Wood Ducks responded with two runs of their own to go back in front 5-4.  Hartfordt/Humboldt then scored two more times in the bottom of the sixth for a 7-4 score.

Jearl Jesson had three hits, including a home run, and two RBIs.  Jacob Ellens had two hits with an RBI.  Brayden Odegaard also had two hits, including a triple.  Nathan Adrian added a double with an RBI.  Braden Herr and Rayce Whiting both had a single with an RBI.  Camden McDonald also had a hit.

PBR 16, Wood Ducks 10

Dell Rapids used two big innings to help lead them to a 16-10 win on Saturday.  The Wood Ducks scored first, getting two runs in the top of the first inning.  PBR responded with five in the bottom of the first.  Hartford/Humboldt got a run in the top of the second and another in the top of the third to close the gap to 5-4.  Dell Rapids then rallied for six runs in the bottom of the third to extend the lead to 11-4.

The Wood Ducks would chip away at the lead.  They scored single runs in the fourth and fifth innings and then scored two times in the top of the sixth to make the score 11-8.  PBR added one run in the bottom of the sixth for a 12-8 score.  The Wood Ducks would get two more runs in the top of the seventh to pull within two, 12-10.  PBR, however, would add four more runs in the bottom of the eighth to seal the victory.

McDonald finished with three hits, one a double, and two RBIs.  Herr also had three hits in the game.  Jesson had a single and home run with four RBIs.  Hunter Den Boer had two hits, including a double.  Adrian added two singles.  Seth Kuno and Ellens each had a single and an RBI.  Logan Larsen had a single.
