Wood Ducks Rally and Hold off Salem

The Hartford/Humboldt Wood Ducks rallied in the middle innings and then held off the Salem Cubs for a 6-4 win on Tuesday, July 1st.

The first two innings were scoreless for the two teams.  Both the Wood Ducks and Cubs scored a run in the third inning.  Hartford/Humboldt took the lead again in the top of the fifth with a run.  They added two more runs in the sixth and two in the seventh for a 6-1 lead.  Salem got one run back in the bottom of the seventh.  They rallied for two runs in the bottom of the eighth to cut the lead to 6-4, but that’s all the closer the Cubs would get.

Hayden Whiting had two hits and two RBIs.  Braden Herr finished with a double.  Clint DenBoer and Chase Vessells both had a single.  Rayce Whiting had an RBI.  Derek Renken pitched three innings and allowed an earned run on four hits and four walks with a strikeout.  Andrew Zimmer also pitched three innings and allowed an unearned run on a hit with three walks and three strikeouts.
