Trojan Softball Wins Dak-12 Tournament

The West Central Trojan softball team took the Dak-12 Tournament title in Sioux Falls on Monday, April 28th with three wins.  The Trojans earned wins over Sioux Falls Christian, Elk Point-Jefferson, and Dell Rapids.

West Central 10, Sioux Falls Christian 0

In the first pool-play game, the Trojans held the Chargers to just one hit.  West Central scored two times in the bottom of the first and another in the second for a 3-0 lead.  They would score four more times in the bottom of the fourth, one in the fifth, and then the Trojans ended the game on the 10-run rule with two runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Ayla Kramer had three hits, two of them doubles, and two RBIs.  Maddy Kunzweiler had two singles.  Sophie Rolfson had a single and two RBIs.  Izzi Parsons, Kadence Lupkes, and Miley Travis all had a single and RBI each.  Paiten Schuldt had a hit.  Elisabeth Miller and Emma Voeltz each had an RBI.  Miller pitched all six innings and allowed one hit and three walks with 11 strikeouts.

West Central 5, Elk Point-Jefferson 2

The Trojans scored five early runs and held off the Huskies in a 5-2 win in their second pool play game of the day to advance to the championship game as the #1 seed.  West Central scored a run in the bottom of the first inning and then had a big four-run bottom of the second for a 5-0 lead.  The score remained 5-0 until the top of the fifth.  Elk Point-Jefferson got two runs, but the Trojans stopped the rally for the win.

Lupkes finished with two hits, including a double.  M. Kunzweiler had a double with an RBI.  Rolfson and Kramer both had a single with an RBI.  Parsons and Addy Kunzweiler had one hit each.  Miller pitched four innings and allowed one hit and three walks with six strikeouts.  Kacey Jaton pitched an inning and allowed two earned runs on a hit and a walk.

West Central 5, Dell Rapids 3

The Trojans held off the Quarriers to claim the tournament title, 5-3.  Neither team scored in the first two innings.  Kramer had an RBI single and Kupkes delivered a big three-run home run in the bottom of the third to give the Trojans a 4-0 lead.  Dell Rapids got one run in the top of the fourth, West Central got that run back in the bottom of the inning.  The Quarriers got two runs on a two-out, two-run double in the top of the fifth, but the Trojans picked off a runner at second base to end the rally and the game.

Rolfson and Miller each had two hits.  Lupkes had a home run and three RBIs.  Kramer finished with a single and an RBI.  Parsons and Miley Travis each had one hit.  Miller pitched five innings and allowed three runs, two earned, on four hits and three walks with eight strikeouts.
