The West Central Trojans earned a big road win at Dakota Valley on Friday, October 11th. The Trojans were able to hold off a late rally for a 27-24 win.
Caden Alfson put West Centra on the board with a two-yard quarterback sneak for a touchdown with 6:51 to go in the opening quarter. Lane Miller made the extra point for a 7-0 lead. The Panthers would get a 27-yard field goal with 2:41 in the first quarter to make the score 7-3. Neither team would score the rest of the half, and West Central led 7-3 at halftime.
The Trojans extended their lead with 6:48 to play in the third quarter. Patrick Hammond had a 19-yard touchdown run, and Miller made the extra point to make the score 14-3. Hammond scored again on a two-yard run with 0:49 to go in the third. After another made extra point, West Central led 21-3 going into the fourth quarter.
Dakota Valley got a big 80-yard touchdown pass with 11:12 left in the game. A made extra point cut the lead to 21-10. They would score again on a five-yard run with 6:58 remaining to pull within five points, 21-16. The Trojans would get a big play of their own later in the quarter. On fourth down, Alfson threw a backward pass to Carter Gross, who then threw a 44-yard pass to Aiden Bartmann to score with 2:21 left in the game. The Trojans went for two points, but missed the conversion, keeping the score 27-16. Dakota Valley got one more score, this time on an 18-yard pass with 1:31 to play. A made two-point conversion made the score 27-24, but that was the final score of the game.
