Gamecocks Season Ends in Opening Round of State Tournament

The Humboldt/Hartford Gamecocks had their season come to an end in the opening round of the 2024 State B Amateur Baseball Tournament in Mitchell on Saturday, August 10th.  The Milbank Firechiefs took a 5-2 win to advance to the next round.

Milbank built an early lead.  They scored a run in the bottom of the first, one in the third, one the fourth, and one more in the fifth for a 4-0 lead.  The score stayed 4-0 until the eighth inning.  Broc Haldeman had an RBI single in the top of the eighth to cut the lead to 4-1.  The Firechiefs added one more run in the bottom of the inning to make the score 5-1.  Jonah Rechtenbaugh hit a two-out, RBI double in the top of the ninth, but that was all Humboldt/Hartford could get, taking the loss 5-2.

Cam Quigley had two hits, including a double.  Rechtenbaugh finished with a double and an RBI, and  Haldeman had a single with an RBI.  Joe Hanisch, Greg Biagi, and Carter Halvorson all had one hit each.  Cole Barthel pitched three innings and allowed two earned runs on seven hits and a walk with a strikeout.  Carver Hultgren pitched four innings and allowed two earned runs on five hits and a walk.  Rechtenbaugh threw one inning allowing an earned run on a hit and two walks with a strikeout.
