Big Inning Sends Gamecocks to State Tournament

One big inning for the Humboldt/Hartford Gamecocks was enough for them to defeat Dell Rapids PBR at the District 4B tournament in Canova on Friday, August 2nd.  The Gamecocks took the win 9-3 to send them to the state tournament.

The first four innings went scoreless.  The Gamecocks then had a seven-run bottom of the fifth for a 7-0 lead.  PBR got two runs in the sixth and one more in the seventh to cut the lead to 7-3.  The Gamecocks added two more runs in the bottom of the eighth.

Cam Quigley had three hits with two RBIs.  Broc Haldeman finished with two singles and two RBIs.  Joe Hanisch added two hits, one a double, and an RBI.  Briggs Havlik also had two hits.  Adam Hentges had a single.  Devon Garry and Chad Morrison both had an RBI.  Cole Barthel pitched 6 1/3 innings and allowed three earned runs on six hits and two walks with five strikeouts.  Blake Svoboda pitched 2 2/3 innings and allowed two walks with four strikeouts.
