Late Inning Run Sends Wood Ducks to State Tournament

A run in the eighth inning was enough to send the Humboldt/Hartford Wood Ducks to the state tournament.  The Wood Ducks broke a 4-4 tie late in the game to get a 5-4 win over Colman in Canova at the District 4B Tournament on Thursday, August 1st.

Humboldt/Hartford put three runs on the board right away in the top of the first inning.  Colman scored one run in the bottom of the inning.  The Wood Ducks would add another run in the top of the second for a 4-1 lead.  The score remained 4-1 until the bottom of the seventh inning.  Colman rallied with two outs to score three runs and tie the game 4-4.  The Wood Ducks bounced back and took advantage of an error.  Gage Nelson was hit by a pitch and Camden McDonald drew a walk.  Austin King reached on an error, and that error allowed Nelson to score what would be the game-winning run.

Brodie Herr finished with three hits and an RBI.  Brayden Odegaard and Nelson both had a single with an RBI.  King and Nathan Adrian each had an RBI.  Logan Larson pitched all nine innings and allowed four runs, three earned, on six this and five walks with 15 strikeouts.
