Trojan Boys Win Region 3A Opener in Overtime

The West Central Trojan boys will play in the next round of the Region 3A Tournament after a 62-52 overtime win at home over the Madison Bulldogs in the opening round on Tuesday, February 27th.

Madison started the game on a 6-1 run and extended the lead to 10-3 with 2:30 left in the opening quarter.  West Central trimmed the lead and trailed 12-8 by quarter’s end.  The Bulldogs continued to lead by four points, 16-12, midway through the second quarter.  Madison maintained their lead throughout the quarter and held a 27-22 advantage at halftime.

West Central tied the game 29-29 in the first two minutes of the third quarter after a 7-2 run.  The Trojans continued their run to take a 34-29 lead.  Madison responded with a 7-0 run of their own to regain the lead 36-34.   The third quarter ended with a West Central 6-0 run for a 40-36 lead.  The Trojans still led by four points, 49-45, with just under four minutes to play.  Madison got within a point, 49-48, with 1:24 to go, and then tied the game 51-51 with under a minute to play. Neither team was able to score again, and the game went into overtime.  West Central went on an 8-0 run to start overtime for a 59-51 lead and finished with the 62-52 win.

Crew Heier had 27 points, seven rebounds, and four steals.  Jake Kuhl finished with 11 points and seven rebounds.  Paden Schulte added eight points, five rebounds, and three steals.
