Eleven Wrestlers Qualify for State for Trojan Wrestling Team

The West Central Trojan wrestling team finished second with 206.0 points at the Region 1A tournament in Madison on Saturday, February 18th.  Eleven wrestlers qualified for state individually.  Mike Ideker and Cole Grocott were named the region coaches of the year.

Karson Vessells won the 113-pound class with three victories.  Chandler Carda won the 145-pound weight class with four pins.  Justin Zirpel took second in the 160-pound class with a 2-1 record.  Chet Carda was also second in the 182-pound class with a 2-1 record.  Gavin Pischke was second in the 285-pound class with a 2-1 record as well.  Connor Siemonsma (138), Keaton Vessells (152), and Gabe Gebhard (195) all placed third with 3-1 records.  Levi Anderson (120) and Orlando Whiting (126) placed fourth with with 2-2 records.  These 10 boys wrestlers, along with Allison Foote, will participate in the individual state tournament.

Jesse Jost (132) finished fifth with a 3-2 record.  Cody Opitz (220) was also fifth with a 2-2 record.  Alex Siemonsma (106) had a sixth place finish with a 1-3 record.  Wyatt Nielsen (170) finished 0-2.

West Central will also take part in the team dual state tournament.  The 2023 South Dakota High School State A Wrestling tournaments will be held in Rapid City Thursday, February 23rd through Saturday, February 25th.
