New Players to have Big Roles for Trojan Boys Basketball This Season

The West Central Trojan boys basketball team will have big shoes to fill this season.  The Trojans graduated eight seniors from the 2021-2022 team that finished 16-4, but lost in the Region 3A semifinals.

Eight new seniors will lead the charge for this year’s team.  Carter Schmeichel, Owen Heath, Erik Seten, Dylan Stromer, Connor Eich, Deuce Sherard, Trey Even, and Xzavian Ferris are this year’s seniors.  West Central will also look for contributions from Trevin Price (junior), Brodie Herr (junior), Crew Heier (junior), Paden Schulte (junior), and Liam Schmeichl (sophomore).

“We plan to still play fast on the offensive side of the floor, and we will most likely have many different leading scorers throughout the season.  We will have to be very solid on the defensive end of the floor though as we will not be quite as talented on offense.  We will ‘fill our glass’ on the defensive side of the floor hopefully leading to good offense on the other end.  If we can do this, the varsity could once again see a season with an above .500 record, which would be impressive considering the conference we play in and the fact that we graduated 91% of our scoring and 77% of our rebounding from a year ago,” said head coach Jacob Sitting.

The Trojans will start the season on the road at Dell Rapids on Friday, December 9th, and then host the Sioux Falls Christian Chargers on Saturday, December 10th.
