The Colton Legion Yard Goats split two games on Saturday, June 21st. They fell to Vermillion, but took a win against Scotland-Menno/Freeman-Canistota.
Vermillion 6, Colton 4
Vermillion rallied in the fifth inning to earn a 6-4 win over Colton. Colton scored a run in the top of the first for an early 1-0 lead. Vermillion took the lead, 2-1, in the bottom of the second. Colton tied the game with a run in the top of the third, but the tie was brief. Vermillion got another run in the bottom of the inning for a 3-2 score. Colton took the lead again, 4-3, with two runs in the top of the fifth inning. Vermillion, however, scored three times in the bottom of the inning to help them to the win.
Mason Hemme had three hits and two RBIs. Nathan Madison finished with a double and single. Carter Sorenson and Alex Wingen both had two hits heach. Braxton Allen, Parker Hemme, and Denton Bicknase all had one hit each. Brody Dybvig had an RBI. Allen pitched four innings and allowed six runs, four earned, on eight hits with two strikeouts. Tristen Bunde pitched an inning and had one strikeout.
Colton 10, Scotland-Menno/Freeman-Canistota 5
The Yard Goats scored six runs late in the game to earn a 10-5 win over the 79ers. Each team scored two runs in the first inning. After a scoreless second inning, Colton added two runs in the top of the third for a 4-2 lead. The 79ers grabbed a 5-4 lead after scoring three times in the bottom of the third. Colton, however, then scored four runs in the top of the fourth and added two more in the fifth for the 10-5 victory.
Wingen finished with three hits and four RBIs. M. Hemme had a single and two RBIs. Aiden Bunde added a single with an RBI. Sorenson, Allen, and P. Hemme all had one hit each. Dybvig had an RBI. Wingen pitched three innings and allowed five earned runs on seven hits and a walk with four strikeouts. Sorenson pitched three innings and allowed two hits with four strikeouts.
