The Colton Legion Yard Goats finished their regular season with a split of two games on Wednesday, July 16th and Thursday, July 17th.
Colton 4, Alexandria 1
The Yard Goats broke a scoreless tie with a three-run top of the third inning. Alexandria scored a run in the bottom of the fourth to make the score 3-1. Colton added an insurance run in the top of the seventh for the 4-1 win.
Alex Wingen had two hits, one a double, and two RBIs. Brody Dybvig also had two hits, including a triple, with an RBI. Nathan Madison added a single and an RBI. Parker Hemme also had a hit. Dybvig pitched 3 1/3 innings and allowed an earned run on a hit and walk with one strikeout. Wingen pitched 3 2/3 innings allowing two hits and three walks with six strikeouts.
Dakota Valley 4, Colton 3
Dakota Valley put four runs on the board in the middle of the game and then held off Colton for the win on Thursday. After two scoreless innings, Dakota Valley got a run in the top of the third and then two more in the fourth for a 3-0 lead. Colton scored a run in the bottom of the fourth to make the score 3-1. Dakota Valley got a run in the top of the fifth, which proved to be the game winner. The Yard Goats rallied for two runs in the bottom of the sixth for a 4-3 score.
Colton started the bottom of the seventh with a single and a hit-by-pitch. A sacrifice bunt moved the runners to second and third with one out. Mason Hemme hit a fly ball to right field that was caught, and Braxten Allen was thrown out at the plate trying to score on a tag to end the game.
Wingen finished with two hits and two RBIs. Carter Sorenson, Allen, Aiden Bunde, and M. Hemme all had one hit each. Dybvig had an RBI.
Region 5B Information
Colton will be playing Alexandria in the opening round of the Region 5B tournament in Alexandria on Tuesday, July 22nd at 5:00 p.m. The regional tournament will continue in Alexandria Wednesday, July 23rd and Thursday, July 24h. The winner of the tournament will advance to the state tournament in Milbank held August 1st through 5th.
