Wagner Takes Weekend Match over Tri-Valley

The Tri-Valley Mustang volleyball team hosted the Wagner Red Raiders in a rare single weekend match.  Wagner won the match in straight sets by scores of 25-18, 25-18, and 27-25.

The Red Raiders took the lead early in the first set 5-2.  That early lead was enough to keep them in front the rest of the set.  They slowly built a 15-9 lead and grew it to 21-12.  The Mustangs went on a 6-1 run to cut the lead to 22-16, but Wagner took the win 25-18.

Tri-Valley started the second set on a 3-0 run, but Wagner responded with three straight points for a 3-3 tie.  The teams went back and forth, and the set was tied 7-7 and 12-12.  The Red Raiders went on a 6-3 run for an 18-15 lead.  They continued to stay in front for the 25-18 win.

The third set saw the two teams trade runs throughout.  Wagner struck first with a 5-2 run.  Tri-Valley responded with a 4-0 run to take a 6-5 lead.  After a 10-10 tie, the Red Raiders took a 16-14 lead.  The Mustangs went on a 4-0 run to take an 18-16 lead.  Tri-Valley grew that lead to 24-19 and were one point away from forcing a fourth set.  Wagner scored five in a row for a 24-24 tie.  The two teams each scored a point for a 25-25 tie.  The Red Raiders then scored the next two points for the set win.

Madelyn Wenzel had nine kills.  Hillary Hastings finished with eight kills.  Emery Pearson added seven kills, and Victoria O’Toole had five kills.  Abigail Wagner had 16 set assists and six digs.  Emily Wenzel finished with 12 set assists and 10 digs.  Kenzie Atwood also had 10 digs.  Cheyenne Hanson and Julia Mauszycki both ended with seven digs each.
