Tri-Valley Football Wins Opener out West

The Tri-Valley Mustang football team made the long trip to Custer on Friday, August 30th and came home with a 20-13 victory to start the 2024 season.

Custer grabbed the lead in the first quarter on a 41-yard touchdown pass.  The extra point was good to give the Wildcats a 7-0 lead.  The score remained 7-0 until the second quarter.  The Mustangs got on the board after a six-yard touchdown run by Colby McAreavey.  The conversion failed, and Custer led 7-6.  The Wildcats added a score on a 39-yard touchdown pass before halftime to give them a 13-6 lead at the break.

After a Wildcat punt to start the second half, Tri-Valley scored on their opening drive of the third quarter.  Ty Oyen scored on a one-yard run to pull the Mustangs within a point, 13-12.  After another Wildcat punt later in the quarter, Tri-Valley took the lead on a five-yard touchdown run by Brody Dybvig and a two-point conversion.  The Mustangs led 20-13 going into the final quarter.  Neither team was able to score in the final quarter, and Tri-Valley held for the win.

The Mustangs had a total of 325 yards of offense, 308 rushing yards and 17 passing yards.  Custer had 167 yards of offense, 43 rushing yards and 124 passing yards.  Dybvig had 22 carries for 147 yards and a touchdown.  Brechen Frederick finished with 112 yards.  McAreavey added eight carries for 30 yards and a touchdown.  Oyen had five carries for 15 yards and a touchdown.  Oyen was also 3-11 passing for 17 yards and an interception.  Dybvig had all three catches for 17 yards.

Landyn Reiser had a total of 6.5 tackles in the game.  Cole Hendrixson finished with four tackles.  Parker Hemme had three tackles and an interception.  Riley Easton added two tackles, and Dybvig had an interception.
