Tri-Valley Boys Stun Dell Rapids in Overtime for Win

The Tri-Valley Mustang boys made just one three-point shot the entire game, but it was the biggest shot of the night.  Brady Jewett made the only three-point basket from the top of the key with :05 left on the clock to give the Mustangs a 51-50 victory over the Dell Rapids Quarriers on Thursday, February 5th.

The Quarriers started the game with a 6-0 run and took a 16-5 lead by the end of the first quarter.  The Mustangs chipped away at the lead in the second quarter and cut the lead down to 25-22 by halftime.  The run continued for Tri-Valley in the third quarter.  They went on a 6-2 run for a 28-27 lead with 4:15 to go in the quarter.  Dell Rapids responded with an 8-0 run to go back in front 35-28 with 2:00 left.  The third quarter ended with the Quarriers leading 35-30.

Dell Rapids pushed their lead to 43-38 with 5:40 left in regulation.  Tri-Valley again chipped away at the lead and eventually tied the score 45-45 with :58 on the clock.  Neither team would score again, and the game went into overtime.  The Quarriers built a 50-46 lead with 1:15 to go.  The Mustangs did not make a field goal in overtime until Jewett’s three-point shot to put them ahead 51-50.  A last second shot by Dell Rapids fell away no good at the buzzer.

Tri-Valley shot 41% (18-44) overall, just 1-13 on three-point attempts, and a perfect 14-14 from the free-throw line.   Dell Rapids ended the game shooting 38% (21-55) overall, 24% (6-25) from three-point area, and just 2-4 from the free-throw line.

Jewett finished with 24 points, five rebounds, and four steals.  Lawson Schneiderman had eight points and four rebounds.  Ty Oyen added seven points and nine rebounds.  Tristen Bunde also had seven points and three rebounds.
