Tri-Valley 14U Maroon Takes Fourth at State Tournament

The Tri-Valley 14U Maroon baseball team finished fourth at the 2025 South Dakota VFW Bravo Division State Tournament in Clear Lake held Friday, August 8th through Sunday, August 10th.  They played two pool-play games on Friday, a bracket game on Saturday, and then the placement game on Sunday.  Tri-Valley finished with an overall record of 2-2 on the weekend.

Tri-Valley 10, Dell Rapids 1

In the first pool-play game on Friday, Tri-Valley took advantage of eight walks, a hit by pitch, and an error in the first inning.  Dell Rapids scored a run in the top of the first, but Tri-Valley scored 10 times in the bottom of the inning.  Neither team scored the rest of the game.

Bentley McMillen and Gerrit Koopman each had a single and an RBI.  Reed Smith and Elliot Powell both had a hit.  Nolan Campbell, Porter Amundson, Will Winter, and Trey Sorenson all had an RBI.  McMillen pitched 1 2/3 innings and allowed an unearned run on two walks with three strikeouts.  Smith pitched 2 1/3 innings and allowed two hits and two walks with two strikeouts.  Amundson threw one inning and had one walk and one strikeout.

Tri-Valley 18, Claremont 2

In the second pool-play game, Tri-Valley cruised past Claremont in four innings.  Tri-Valley scored a run in the first, five in the second, and five more in the third for an 11-0 lead.  Claremont got both of their runs in the bottom of the third.  Tri-Valley then scored seven times in the top of the fourth before the game ended on the 10-run rule.

McMillen had three hits, one a double, and three RBIs.  Campbell had two hits and four RBIs.  Koopman added two singles and an RBI.  Amundson had two hits, one a double.  Brody Williams had a single and two RBIs.  Smith and Sorenson each had a single and an RBI.  Legend Frederick had a hit, and Winter had an RBI.

Sisseton 8, Tri-Valley 1

In the bracket-play game on Saturday, Sisseton broke a scoreless tie with three runs in the top of the third inning.  After two more scoreless innings, Sisseton had three more runs in the top of the sixth for a 6-0 lead.  They scored two more times in the seventh.  Tri-Valley scored their lone run in the bottom of the seventh.

Winter had a single and an RBI.  Amundson had a double.  Smith, Koopman, and Williams all had one hit each.  McMillen pitched four innings and allowed three runs, one earned, on three hits with eight strikeouts.

Winner 8, Tri-Valley 0

Tri-Valley faced Winner in the 3rd/4th place game on Sunday.  Winner scored seven of their eight runs in the first three innings.  They scored a run in the first, one in the second, and five more in the third.  They added another run in the top of the fifth.  Tri-Valley was held to just one hit in the game, a single by Sorenson.
