The Tri-Valley 14U Maroon team will be headed to bracket play for the 2025 South Dakota VFW Bravo Division State Tournament held in Clear Lake August 8th-10th. Tri-Valley defeated Irene in two games in a best-of-three series to qualify.
Tri-Valley 8, Irene 1
Irene scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the first inning, but it was all Tri-Valley after that. Tri-Valley took the lead, 3-1, in the top of the second. They added another run in the top of the fourth to make the score 4-1. Tri-Valley would then have back-to-back two run innings in the fifth and sixth innings.
Porter Amundson had two hits and an RBI. Nolan Campbell, Paxton Felsheim, and Reed Smith all had a double with an RBI in the game. Bentley McMillen had a single and an RBI. Gerrit Koopman also had a hit. McMillen pitched four innings and allowed an unearned run on a hit and three walks with seven strikeouts. Amundson pitched three innings and allowed one hit and three walks with five strikeouts.
Tri-Valley 12, Irene 5
Irene again scored the first run of the game in the second game, this time as the visiting team in the top of the first inning. Tri-Valley responded with four in the bottom of the first for a 4-1 lead. The score remained 4-1 until the top of the fourth. Irene scored single runs in fourth and fifth innings to pull within a run, 4-3. Tri-Valley had another big inning in the bottom of the fifth, scoring five times to extend the lead to 9-3. Irene plated two more runs in the top of the sixth, but Tri-Valley once again responded and scored three runs to make the score 12-5.
Will Winter had three hits and two RBIs. Felsheim finished with three singles. McMillen had a double and triple with three RBIs. Koopman added two hits and an RBI. Smith had a double and a single. Campbell had a singe with two RBIs, and Amundson had a single. Smith pitched four innings and allowed two earned runs on seven walks with nine strikeouts. Trey Sorenson threw two innings and allowed three earned runs on three hits and four walks with three strikeouts. Campbell pitched one inning and walked one batter.
