Second Half Rally Falls Short for Mustang Girls

The Tri-Valley Mustang girls had their second half rally fall short against the Milbank Bulldogs at the Dak-12/NEC Clash in Madison on Saturday, February 8th.  The Bulldogs held off the Mustangs for a 46-44 win.

Milbank grabbed an 11-3 lead with 2:50 to go in the opening quarter.  The Mustangs went on a 6-0 run to cut the lead to 11-9.  The Bulldogs ended the quarter with four straight points for a 15-9 lead.  The Mustangs got within four points within the second quarter, but Milbank led 25-16 at halftime.  Milbank extended the lead to 29-16 early in the third quarter and led 35-29 going into the fourth quarter.  The Mustangs rallied to within two points, 46-44, after a three-point basket with :40 to play, but neither team would score again in the game.

Tri-Valley shot 28% (13-46) from the field overall, 22% (5-23) on three-point attempts, and 72% (13-18) from the free-throw line.  Milbank finished the game shooting 47% (15-32) overall, 47% (9-19) from three-point area, and 47% (7-15) from the free-throw line.

Hailey Sorenson led the team with 18 points and two rebounds.  Mattie Huwe added eight points, five steals, and two assists.  Peyton Vogt also had eight points and three steals.  Rowyn Gacke had six points, five steals, and two rebounds.
