The Tri-Valley Mustang volleyball team traveled to Parkston for a match on Monday, September 29th. The Mustangs fell in four sets by scores of 25-13, 23-25, 25-23, and 25-20.
The Trojans took an early 5-3 lead to start the first set. They scored the next four points to make the score 9-3. The Mustangs got the lead down to four, 13-9, but that was as close as they could get in the first set. Parkston pushed the lead to 17-10. They still led by seven, 20-13, before scoring the final five points for the 25-13 win.
After an early 3-3 start to the second set, Parkston scored the next four points for a 7-3 lead. Tri-Valley fought back to cut the lead to 13-12. The Mustangs tied the score 14-14. They then took the lead 16-15. The Trojans went on a 4-1 to go back in front 19-17. The Mustangs tied the score again at 22-22. After a 23-23 tie, Tri-Valley scored the final two points for a 25-23 win.
The third set started with a 3-3 tie. Tri-Valley went in front 6-4 and continued to lead by scores of 10-7 and 12-10. The Trojans, however, went on a 4-1 lead to take a 14-13 lead. Parkston extended their lead to 18-15. After Tri-Valley got within one, 19-18, Parkston scored the next three points for a 22-18 advantage. The Mustangs pulled within a point again, 22-21, but the Trojans held on for a 25-23 win.
Tri-Valley started the fourth set with a 5-2 run. Parkston rallied to tie the score 6-6. They carried that momentum to a 13-7 lead. Tri-Valley cut the lead in half, 16-13, and then eventually tied the score 20-20. The Trojans would score the final five points of the set, and match, for a 25-20 win.
