The Tri-Valley Mustang volleyball team traveled to Vermillion on Thursday, September 12th and came home with a straight set win over the Tanagers. The Mustangs won by scores of 25-16, 25-19, and 25-13.
An early run to start the first set kept the Mustangs in front the entire way. Tri-Valley started with a 3-0 lead and increased it to 10-2 early. They maintained their lead at 20-12 before winning the first set 25-16. Vermillion grabbed an early 3-1 lead to start the second set. The Mustangs tied the score 3-3. After a 5-5 tie, Tri-Valley went on a run of 8-2 to take a 13-7 lead. The Tanagers pulled within a point, 14-13, but Tri-Valley was able to pull away. They increased their lead to 22-17 and won the set 25-19. The Mustangs used another big run in the middle of the third set to win the match. After a close 9-6 score, Tri-Valley went on an 11-3 run for a 20-9 advantage and then took the set 25-13.
Madelyn Wenzle finished with nine kills and seven digs. Tori O’Toole had seven kills. Emery Pearson added six kills, 10 digs, and three ace serves. Abigail Wagner finisehd with four kills, seven digs, 18 set assists, and six ace serves. Macey Boese had three kills, three set assists, eight digs, and three ace serves. Emily Wenzel had six digs and four set assists, while Cheyenne Hanson had five digs. Brooke Steineke ended with four digs and three ace serves.
