Mustang Softball Wins Two at Early Classic

The Tri-Valley Mustang softball season started with two games at the Beresford Classic held at the American State Bank Sports Complex in Sioux Center, IA on Saturday, March 28th.  The Mustangs earned wins over Sioux Valley and Sioux Falls Christian.

Tri-Valley 6, Sioux Valley 2

After three scoreless innings, Tri-Valley got onto the scoreboard with two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.  They added four more runs in the bottom of the fifth for a 6-0 lead.  The Cossacks picked up two runs in the top of the sixth, but that is all they could get.

Emry Jones had two hits, one a home run, and an RBI.  Kadence Davey also had a home run with two RBIs.  Ava Christensen had a double.  Isabella Wetmore-Ocampo finished with a single and an RBI.  Mattie Huwe and Peyton Vogt each had a single.  Jones pitched six innings and allowed two earned runs on five hits and three walks with eight strikeouts.  Davey pitched one inning and allowed a hit and walk with two strikeouts.

Tri-Valley 18, Sioux Falls Christian 3

The Mustangs scored nine early runs in the first two innings to help them to the big win over the Chargers.  Sioux Falls Christian got two runs in the bottom of the second to make the score 9-2.  Tri-Valley added two more runs in the top of the third and then put seven runs on the board in the top of the fifth to lead 18-2.  The Chargers scored one more run in the bottom of the fifth.

Jones had four hits, one a home run, and six RBIs.  Davey finished with two singles and a triple.  Rowyn Gacke had two hits, one a double, and three RBIs.  Syenna Halverson had a single and double with two RBIs.  Huwe added two hits and an RBI.  Wetmore-Ocampo had a hit and two RBIs.  Haleigh Wallenstein had a double, and Hailey Sorenson ended with an RBI.  Davey pitched five innings and allowed three runs, two earned, on three hits and five walks with eight strikeouts.
