The Tri-Valley Mustang softball team finished as the 2025 South Dakota State A runner-up after finishing 2-1 at the tournament in Aberdeen Thursday, June 5th through Saturday, June 7th.
Tri-Valley 14, Elk Point-Jefferson 8
The Mustangs put together a massive rally to earn an 14-8 win over the Huskies in the opening round on Thursday. Elk Point-Jefferson scored two in the first inning and two in the second for an early 4-0 lead. Tri-Valley cut the lead to 4-3 with three runs in the bottom of the second. After a scoreless third, the Huskies got two runs in the fourth, one in the fifth, and another in the top of the sixth to extend their lead to 8-3. Tri-Valley then exploded for 11 runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead and the game.
Ava Christensen had three hits, two of them home runs and also a double, with four RBIs. Kadence Davey had three hits, including a home run, and five RBIs. Hailey Sorenson and Mattie Huwe both had two hits each. Emery Pearson had a home run with two RBIs. Keagan Kuchta had a single and two RBIs. Isabella Wetmore-Ocampo added a double. Syenna Halverson, Emry Jones, and Izzy Davey all had one hit each. Jones pitched four innings and allowed four earned runs on seven hits and a walk with three strikeouts. I. Davey pitched three innings and allowed two runs, one earned, on four hits and a walk with one strikeout.
Tri-Valley 6, Dakota Valley 5
The Mustangs rallied again in the semifinals to earn a walk-off win over the Panthers on Friday to punch their ticket to the state championship game. The Panthers scored a run in the top of the first. They continued to lead 1-0 until the top of the sixth. Dakota Valley added three more runs to extend the lead to 4-0. The Mustangs rallied for three runs in the bottom of the sixth to make the score 4-3. Dakota Valley got a run in the top of the seventh making the score 5-3. K. Davey had an RBI double for Tri-Valley in the bottom of the seventh to cut the lead to 5-4. After a pop out, Jones had an RBI bunt single to tie the game, 5-5. Pearson then delivered the game-winning double to give the Mustangs the 6-5 win.
I. Davey had a home run and double with three RBIs. K. Davey and Pearson both had two hits, including each with a double, and an RBI. Jones also had two hits with an RBI. Halverson, Wetmore-Ocampo, Huwe, and Peyton Vogt all had one hit each. Jones pitched seven innings and allowed five runs, just one earned, on nine hits and four walks with seven strikeouts.
West Central 11, Tri-Valley 1
K. Davey scored on an error in the top of the first inning to give the Mustangs an early 1-0 lead in the championship game on Saturday. Tri-Valley continued to lead 1-0 until the bottom of the third inning. West Central then scored three times to take a 3-1 lead. They added three more in the bottom of the fifth making the score 6-1. The Trojans ended the game on the 10-run rule with five runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Pearson had two hits in the game. K. Davey added a single. Jones pitched five innings and allowed six runs, three earned, on 12 hits and two walks with three strikeouts. I. Davey pitched 1/3 of an inning and allowed five runs, one earned, on three hits with one strikeout.
